The story of Palkon Ki Chhaon Mein revolves around an orphan girl named Suman who lives with her maternal Aunt and Uncle. Suman's Aunt hates her while her Uncle saves Suman from all the taunts of his wife.

Nandini and Suman become friends while Surbhi (Nandini's mother) develops a liking for her and decides to get her married to Anshuman.

However, Surbhi's younger son Nandan falls in love with Suman.

Afterwards, when Anshuman gets to know this truth he breaks up with Suman and reunites Nandan and Suman.

Later in the story, Nandan dies and to save Suman from society's wrath and rudeness, Anshuman holds Suman's hand.
